Sometimes, the best adventures are spontaneous. When your sister-in-law is determined to hit her Delta Medallion status, why not tag along and turn it into a memorable trip? Here are a few reasons why this impromptu getaway to New York City was worth every moment:
• Extend the holiday spirit: Who says Christmas has to end on December 25th? New York City during the holidays is pure magic.
• See an iconic show: There’s nothing like the Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes to keeping the Christmas spirit alive.
• Create memories with loved ones: Traveling with my sister-in-law and nieces made it even more special. The laughter, shared experiences, and bonding moments are truly the best part of any trip.

Where We Stayed: Distrikt, The Tapestry Collection by Hilton
Situated on 40th Street and 9th Avenue, this property is a short walk to Rockefeller, Garment District, Times Square, and Hell’s Kitchen. As a Hilton Diamond member, I appreciated the daily food and beverage credit, and the staff truly went above and beyond. Crystal at the front desk and the bellman (whose name escapes me) were incredibly accommodating—offering late check-outs, luggage storage, and even arranging airport transfers.
Food Stops You Can’t Miss
• Ess-a-Bagel: A quintessential NYC bagel experience. Yes, it’s busy, but the line moves quickly. Try their creative cream cheese options!

• Angelo’s Coal Oven Pizza: Perfect for a quick, satisfying bite after exploring Midtown. The pizza crust had the right mix of crispy and chewy. Splitting a pizza, salad, and complimentary rolls truly hit the spot.

• Broad Nosh Bagel & Deli: A lighter take on the classic New York bagel, with just enough cream cheese options to satisfy everyone.

• Cava: Though not unique to NYC, this Mediterranean spot has become a must for our family on nearly every trip.
• The Joyce Public House: With no reservations or plans for dinner, this was just steps from the hotel. They offered a large menu, good food, drinks, and a DJ playing nostalgic 80s and 90s music. A perfect way to wind down after a busy day.
Shopping and Sightseeing Highlights
• Louis Vuitton: While their flagship store is under renovation, the temporary location is just as luxurious. If you’re into monogram stamping, plan ahead—it takes 24 hours.

• Saks Fifth Avenue and Ralph’s Coffee: Designer shoes and delicious designer coffee? Yes, please! The shoe selection was spectacular.

Swarovski: The tree and store are grand and sparkling!

• St. Patrick’s Cathedral: Beautifully adorned for Christmas, with the added bonus of catching a choir performance. A simply stunning building to admire.

• Rockefeller Center: No holiday trip is complete without admiring the iconic tree. It’s a tradition I’ll never tire of. Each time I've seen the tree, it's as magical as the very first time!

• Bryant Park Christmas Market: This festive market has something for everyone, from unique gifts to ice skating. Muir+Grand was a great stop to get a souvenir and support a women owned New York business. Even with the crowds, it’s a must-visit.

• Harold Square Christmas Market: In the shadows of the iconic Macy's, there were many familiar treats that we enjoyed on our recent European Christmas Market cruise. There was even a vendor from Germany selling their iconic stars equipped with American power plugs. Although smaller than Bryant Park, this was less crowded and had some of the same vendors.

The Grand Finale: Radio City Rockettes

The Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall is just that—spectacular. This 90-minute show is a high-energy, family-friendly experience that captures the magic of the season. Starting in the lobby it was beautiful. The talent of the entire crew was just amazing - the dancers were perfection, and the lighting and special effects added to the whole experience. If you haven't seen the Rockettes perform at Radio City Music Hall, you are missing out!

A Festive Farewell
Even in the rain, New York City during the holidays is a sight to behold. Though our trip was brief, we made the most of every moment. What a way to end my 2024 travels!
